Working Group on Seabird Ecology

The Working Group on Seabird Ecology (WGSE) focuses on seabird conservation policy.

The ICES Working Group on Seabird Ecology convened 21–25 October 2013 in Copenhagen to work through Terms of Reference on local enhancement and facilitation, mathematical models to portray spatial distribution, and recent changes in European law regarding commercial fishing vessel discards.

WGSE met in tandem with the Bird Expert Group of the OSPAR Intersessional Correspondence Group on Coordination of Biodiversity and Monitoring (OSPAR ICG-COBAM), with the former assigned more 'pure science' topics and the latter handling the more 'applied' issues like Ecology Quality Objectives (EcoQOs). In future years, these two groups will pool their resources and seabird expertise one jointly-sponsored ICES/OSPAR group to be named WGBIRD. The new group will tackle both applied and pure research.
